The Hill of Crosses is an historical and architectural monument, a unique composition of
folk art. It attracts people with its peace, spirituality, authenticity, and
sacred nature. The oblong mound, somewhat similar to a saddle, stands on a
plain and is surrounded by the valleys of Kulpė Stream and its nameless tributaries. The hill itself is
the Jurgaičiai-Domantai
mound, which sits next to a former ancient village that was here in the
13th-14th centuries. It became a sacred site in the 19th century

This poster by Miron Lukianov and Vasily Ostrovsky in 1965 more closely
resembles a western movie posters. The rocket trail becomes the path to
infinity, walked by a young cosmonaut. Homage is paid to the late nineteenth
century philosopher and visionary, Konstantin Tsialkovsky who claimed ‘the road
to the stars is open’, in a time when all this was mere science fiction. The
way leads to distant galaxies and beyond

A collaboration between
composer Úlfur Eldjárn and filmmaker Christopher Riley, 'Poyekhali!' blends
Yuri Gagarin's preparations for his first historic orbit of the Earth on the
12th April 1961, with those of British astronaut Tim Peake as he prepares to leave
from the same space port on the 15th December 2015, to make his own first
orbit. The film reveals the views of Eastern Siberia and the Kamchatka
Peninsula which Yuri first saw from Vostok 1 and which Tim will see from Soyuz
TMA-19M, before transitioning to the spectacular time lapse views of the Earth
captured from the International Space Station today.
